Founded in April 2021 by long-time runner and active athlete Johnny Tieu, Continuum Athletics has established itself as a performance-first running community in Canggu Seseh neighboorhood. Johnny’s own experience in the sport shaped the foundation of the crew, but Continuum has grown organically into a community of runners with different backgrounds, abilities and goals. Some are focused on improving their race times, others are preparing for a marathon or trail race, while some use running as part of their HYROX training. What connects them is a shared interest in training, racing and improving together.
A Performance-First Approach

Continuum follows a structured weekly programme built around three key sessions: intervals on Tuesday, threshold training on Thursday and a easy long run on Sunday. Each session has a different training purpose. Intervals focus on speed and running efficiency, threshold sessions develop the ability to sustain a strong effort, while long runs build the endurance required for longer-distance racing. The programme provides a framework for runners to train consistently while working towards their own goals. It is also designed to be scalable, with runners able to adjust the distance, pace or intensity according to their current ability and objectives
That does not mean that the performance focus makes Continuum exclusive to experienced runners. Newer runners are welcome to join, train with the group and develop over time, while more experienced members can continue to challenge themselves. The result is a group where a newer runner can train alongside someone preparing for their next race, with both following the same overall programme at an appropriate level.
The Community

Training may bring people together, but the community is what keeps them coming back. Members regularly share information about upcoming races, update each other on events they are entering and follow one another’s preparation. A race on someone’s calendar becomes something the wider group knows about and looks forward to, whether it is a marathon, ironman, spartan, trail race or HYROX competition. That support continues through race day, with members turning up to encourage one another and celebrate the results afterwards.
It is a simple dynamic, but an important one. Running can be an individual sport, particularly when the clock is the ultimate measure of performance. Training with a group changes that experience. A difficult interval session is shared, progress is visible to others and individual achievements become something the community can celebrate together.
Part of Bali’s Running Culture

As Continuum’s own community has developed, so has its involvement in Bali’s wider running scene. The crew has supported runners preparing for major events, including Maybank Marathon shake-out runs, while also joining larger community initiatives such as the UNSEEN/Bali Marathon community run alongside Island Wolfpack. Its involvement has also extended into the organization of races. Continuum has been part of the committee behind the Relay of the Gods Race, contributing to an event that brings together different parts of Bali’s running community.
The crew has also created opportunities for its own members to race in different formats. Its Track Race introduced a 400-metre event in 2024 at Lapangan Mengwi, bringing a short-distance track challenge into the community. It has also taken part in Field Day at Bali United Training Centre, giving members another setting to come together and test themselves. Meanwhile, its collaboration with Flowerboy on Loop Du Jour has created a recurring 6.2-kilometre loop race, held consecutively since 2023. These events have given Continuum’s runners different ways to compete, while also creating opportunities to connect with people and communities outside the regular weekly sessions. The crew has also worked with Indonesian running brands such as Saturdays and GUDS, adding another connection between its runners and the country’s wider running industry.
Through these activities, Continuum has become part of the network of runners, races, organizers and brands shaping Bali’s running culture. For its members, performance is not only about the result on race day. It is built through consistent training, shared effort and having a community that keeps everyone moving towards the next goal.
