Monstr Training Pit: Boxing, Muay Thai and BJJ Under One Roof

Canggu has no shortage of places to train, with the opening of Monstr Training Pit adding another option for those focused on martial arts and combat sports. Located near Obsidian Gym in Canggu, the relatively new gym brings together striking, grappling and recovery facilities under one roof. The space is still developing, with additional training options planned in the coming months, including a strength and conditioning programme by Shredfast. As you walk in, you are greeted by the reception area. On the left is a retail corner showcasing martial arts accessories, including gloves, shin guards and rash guards from brands such as Primo, Fairtex and Aesthetic. The gym also carries its own merchandise, including shirts, shorts and other official Monstr Training Pit apparel The retail area makes it possible for members to pick up training essentials and gym merchandise without having to go elsewhere.

A Space Dedicated to Striking

The main training area at Monstr is dedicated to striking, with a full-size ring, heavy bags and open space for drills and pad work. The open-air setup, combined with its industrial-style interior, gives the space a straightforward training-focused feel. The schedule runs throughout the week, with sessions covering boxing, K1 Muay Thai and sparring, alongside dedicated pad and drill sessions. There are also kids’ boxing and Muay Thai classes, as well as pro team training for more advanced athletes. For those looking to train independently, the gym also offers Open Gym hours from 12pm to 3pm, Monday to Saturday. The range of sessions makes the striking room suitable for different levels, from beginners and kids through to experienced fighters and those training competitively.

No-Gi Grappling Programme

Alongside the striking area, Monstr has a separate, air-conditioned grappling room dedicated to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and No-Gi training. The schedule offers a broad range of sessions, including Beginner No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu, Introduction to Jiu-Jitsu, regular No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu, Kids No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu and No-Gi Leg Lock classes. There are also dedicated free-rolling sessions for all levels, as well as mobility classes and competition sparring. The programme is led by Randolf, a black belt from Hardiarnism Jakarta, with the dedicated room providing a more controlled environment for grappling away from the main striking area. For those who prefer less structured training, the schedule also includes Open Mat sessions, giving members additional time to work on their game, drill or roll.

Membership, Recovery Facilities and Continuing to Expand

Recovery is also part of the facility. Monstr has an ice bath, sauna and shower facilities, with separate men’s and women’s shower rooms. This gives members the option to combine their training and recovery in the same place, rather than having to move between different facilities. Monstr Training Pit is still in its early stages, having been operating for less than a year, and the facility continues to build out its offering. A strength and conditioning programme by Shredfast is planned to join the gym in September, adding another component to its existing martial arts-focused training programme. For now, Monstr Training Pit brings together boxing, Muay Thai, No-Gi BJJ, grappling and recovery facilities in one location, with more additions expected as the gym continues to develop.Monstr Training Pit offers several membership options, from single-day visits to longer-term memberships. A Day Pass is IDR 300,000, while a 3-Day Pass is IDR 750,000. For regular training, memberships are available weekly at IDR 1.2 million, bi-weekly at IDR 1.9 million and monthly at IDR 2.3 million, with longer options including three, six and twelve months. For those looking to use the facility specifically for training and recovery, Open Gym & Recovery is available for IDR 200,000, while a Saturday Special Day Pass costs IDR 150,000. The gym also notes that separate grappling-only pricing is available, while KTP/KITAS holders can contact the gym directly for further details.
