CrossFit Wanderlust: Where Wanderlust Fitness Village Began

Before Wanderlust became a fitness village, there was CrossFit Wanderlust. Founded in 2016 by Dave Driskell, CrossFit Wanderlust became the foundation of what would eventually grow into Wanderlust Fitness Village. Driskell had been involved in CrossFit since 2009, and after years of travelling, coaching, and developing his approach to training, he established Wanderlust in Bali. Today, CrossFit remains at the heart of the campus. Wanderlust has grown significantly beyond its original CrossFit offering, but the gym continues to be a destination for CrossFit athletes and fitness enthusiasts visiting Bali.

A Fitness Destination in Bali

The scale of the facility is one of its defining characteristics. Wanderlust’s main training area spans around 2,000 square metres, with multiple training rooms and a dedicated 450-square-metre open gym. The facility is also home to a large CrossFit community and has welcomed more than 15,000 members since 2016, according to Wanderlust. The main CrossFit room provides enough space to accommodate large classes, including the popular Saturday Smasher sessions. With extensive rig space, barbells, plates, gymnastics equipment, and conditioning machines, the setup is designed to handle both everyday classes and larger community workouts. For CrossFit athletes travelling to Bali, this combination of scale, equipment, coaching, and community is part of what makes Wanderlust a destination rather than simply another gym.

More Than the CrossFit Class

While CrossFit is the centrepiece, the training floor extends beyond the standard class. A dedicated open gym area allows members to follow their own programming outside of scheduled classes. The space includes much of the equipment typically required for functional fitness, including rowers, SkiErgs, bikes, pull-up rigs, barbells, and other conditioning equipment. There is also dedicated space for mobility and conventional strength training, with dumbbells and other equipment for those looking to train outside the CrossFit format. Another point of difference is Wanderlust’s dedicated weightlifting setup. Olympic lifting has always been closely connected to CrossFit, and the facility has a separate area and programming for athletes who want to work specifically on movements such as the snatch and clean and jerk. Current programming includes dedicated weightlifting sessions focused on technique, strength, and accessories.

A Broader Fitness Program

The growth of Wanderlust Fitness Village has also meant that CrossFit now sits alongside a much broader range of training options. The current schedule includes CrossFit alongside Hyrox conditioning and strength, weightlifting, Engine, Bali Burn, Booty Builder, Total Body Build, and other strength and conditioning formats. Room B is used for several of these non-CrossFit classes, including Hyrox, strength, and conditioning sessions. This has allowed Wanderlust to evolve from a CrossFit-focused facility into a broader training destination without losing the community and programming that built its reputation. Today, CrossFit, Hyrox, strength and conditioning, weightlifting, combat sports, and recovery all exist within the same wider campus.

Membership and Access

For visitors, Wanderlust offers several ways to access the gym, from single-day visits to longer memberships. The current price list shown by Wanderlust includes a 1-day all-inclusive pass at IDR 350,000 (US$20/€17), covering the gym, unlimited classes, recovery centre, pools, ice baths, sauna, and co-working space. For gym-focused access, the listed options include a 3-day pass at IDR 650,000 (US$37/€32), 1-week pass at IDR 800,000 (US$45/€39), 2-week pass at IDR 1.45 million (US$82/€71), 4-week pass at IDR 2.25 million (US$127/€109), and longer 12- and 24-week memberships at IDR 6 million (US$338/€292) and IDR 10 million (US$564/€486), respectively. There is also a 4-week Open Gym pass at IDR 1.5 million (US$85/€73), a 10-day Day Pack at IDR 2.5 million (US$141/€122), and class packs starting from IDR 750,000 (US$42/€36). Prices are subject to 10% government tax.

From CrossFit to Fitness Village

Community has been part of the Wanderlust story from the beginning, with events and challenges creating opportunities for members to come together beyond regular classes. Over the years, the facility has hosted weightlifting competitions, Hyrox simulation races, and other community-focused events. One of its most distinctive initiatives is the 4×48 Mental Health Smasher, a CrossFit endurance challenge where participants complete one workout every four hours for 48 hours. The event originated at Wanderlust and has since grown into a wider initiative supporting mental health organisations. These activities are also part of a bigger evolution. What began as CrossFit Wanderlust has gradually expanded into Wanderlust Fitness Village, bringing CrossFit together with Hyrox, strength and conditioning, weightlifting, combat sports, recovery, and other fitness offerings. CrossFit remains at the heart of the campus, but it is no longer the entire story. The original gym has effectively become the foundation on which the wider fitness village was built  the CrossFit gym came first, and the fitness village grew around it.
