Bali’s Relay of the Gods is returning on 17 January 2027, bringing runners together for a 160-kilometre team relay across the island. Pre-registration is now open for the third edition, with organizers inviting teams to take on the challenge of navigating Bali’s varied landscapes from the early hours of the morning through the day. The event first took place in January 2025, when six teams took part in what began as a small running adventure among friends. By its second edition in January 2026, the race had grown significantly, attracting around 30 teams according to participant accounts, with the organizers reporting 40 teams on the starting line. The growth reflects the increasing interest in community-led running events across Bali.

Organised by Indie Runner, Relay of the Gods takes a different approach to conventional road races. Teams of five runners share the 160-kilometre route, deciding their own running intervals and rotation strategy. While one member runs, the rest of the team follows in a support vehicle, managing navigation, logistics and the next handover. The route takes participants through Bali’s beaches, jungles, rice fields, villages and challenging climbs, making teamwork as important as individual endurance. The event is built around more than competition. Its self-supported format encourages runners to work together, adapt to changing conditions and experience the island from a different perspective. It also brings together Bali’s wider running community, with local crews and partners contributing to the event’s development since its inaugural edition.

For 2027, the organisers are opening the race to a maximum of 50 teams. Pre-registration runs from 19 to 23 October 2026, with teams selected after the registration window closes. Entry costs IDR 3 million per team of five, including event shirts, a race tracker and afterparty access. Teams must arrange their own support vehicle, accommodation, food and drinks. With its third edition approaching, Relay of the Gods continues to build on the idea that running can be as much about shared experiences as it is about performance. For teams ready to take on 160 kilometres together, the next chapter begins in Bali in January 2027.
